Record crop forecast for Californian walnuts

The Californian walnut harvest is expected to be 340,000 tons this year, a 5 percent increase on last year. And with demand for walnuts increasing, growers have been planting an additional 3,000 to 5,000 acres of walnuts each year in California. Between 2001 and 2004, the price of walnuts increased by 21 percent. California produces about 40 percent of the world's walnut crop, with almost half being exported.
