Since last month, the President of the Aegean Union of Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Mr. Seyyar, is in talks with the airline Turkish Airlines for the establishment of regular cargo flights for fresh fruits and vegetables, to the Gulf, Europe and the Middle East.
The latest updates on fares and flight schedules should be resolved in the coming days.
Tomato exporters in particular are very satisfied with this logistical facility, which will enable them to bring their products to the outside markets on the same day.
The starting points should be İzmir, Antalya and Adana, which are towns located in important agricultural areas.
Mr. Seyyar added that this is a huge step for the fruit and vegetable export sector.
This will allow fruit and vegetable exporters to obtain double or triple prices of those they currently obtain in certain markets, such as Russia. Indeed, the Arab countries are willing to pay dearly for fresh, premium products.
