Vegetables in Russian market in 12 week of 2008

In general vegetable trade was one of the most active during week 12 apart from tomatoes which prices were very low due to large arrival of bad quality stuff from Morocco –1,25 US$/kg in Saint-Petersburg. In Moscow, the situation with tomatoes was even worse due to availability of Turkish stuff. The demand for potato decreased and prices for Dutch stuff went down from 0,465 US$/kg in the beginning of the week to 0,35 US$/kg in the end. New crop potato from Egypt was offered in the south on 0,665 US$/kg level and on 0,75 US$/kg in Saint-Petersburg. There was a strong demand for white cabbage – 0,625 US$/kg and carrots – 0,915 US$/kg for Dutch stuff. Capsicums were going down : from 2,29 US$/kg in the beginning of the week to 2,08 US$/kg in the end of it. Yellow capsicum stayed on 2,50 US$/kg level due to short supply.
