Protected ground vegetables put imported products out of the Ukrainian market
Based on the recent data, Ukrainian farmers extensively supply greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes to local chain and wholesale markets. Consequently protected ground vegetables production significantly affects sales rates of fruits and vegetables imported to Ukraine. Current market situation could be traced to development of new greenhouse complexes last year in Ukraine. Maintaining of modern greenhouses equipped with drip irrigation, climate control and heating systems, has enabled local traders to reduce import volumes of protected ground vegetables within domestic market of Ukraine. Based on the recent data, the total area used for protected ground vegetables growing comprises approximately 5 ha at the current moment in Ukraine. According to the latest information, more than 500 000 tons of vegetable have been produced in local greenhouses this year.
