Azerbaijan has experienced a notable increase in its tomato exports during 2024. From January to November, the country exported 124,790 tons of tomatoes, generating $155.362 million in revenue. This represents a $14.893 million (10.6%) increase in value and a 488-ton (0.4%) rise in volume compared to the same period in 2023, according to local media.
In the first ten months of 2024, the average export price for 1 kg of tomatoes was 2.03 manats ($1.19), marking a 7.3% increase from 1.89 manats ($1.11) in the previous year. Tomatoes accounted for 0.64% of Azerbaijan's total exports during this period.
This growth is attributed to expanded state support for the agriculture sector and enhanced mechanisms for cultivating high-export-potential products. The Ministry of Agriculture notes that the country dedicates approximately 18,000 hectares to tomato cultivation, yielding over 800,000 tons annually.
Additionally, Azerbaijan's tomato imports have seen significant changes. Imports from Turkmenistan surged to 548 tons in the early months of 2024, a fivefold increase from the previous year. Imports from Turkey also rose substantially, increasing 419-fold from January to October 2023.
