The overall potato production for the 4 countries of the NEPG zone (Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands) is estimated at 21.22 million tonnes, i.e. -6.37% compared to 2021.
According to NEPG (North Western European Potato Growers) estimates, the potato harvest will be lower this year compared to 2021.
NEPG estimates the overall potato production for the 4 countries of the NEPG zone (Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands) at 21.22 million tonnes, i.e. -6.37% compared to 2021 and -10, 72% compared to 2020.
The areas in the NEPG zone (Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands) increased to 510,749 hectares, or +3.2% compared to 2021.
But the average yield has fallen sharply, with 42.1 tonnes/hectare, or -7.8% compared to 2021. NEPG indicates a great disparity between countries and even regions, due to an unequal distribution of temperatures and rainfall as well as the intensive use of irrigation. The yield gaps are significant, and range from less than 30 tons/hectare to more than 65 tons/hectare.
