A good flowering of stone fruit trees was registered in early production areas of Spain, such as Andalusia, Murcia and Extremadura. A good quality of product is also projected, expecting the first deliveries at the end of April in Murcia and at the beginning of May in Andalusia, according to the FEPEX Stone Fruit Committee.
In regions with later productions, such as Rioja, Aragon and Catalonia, the first volumes are expected in June.
In 2020, the exported volumes of nectarine, peach, apricot, cherry and plum fell 17 % compared to 2019, totaling 1.04 million tons worth 1.070 million euros, according to data from the Customs and Excise Duties Department.
By products, the exported volumes of nectarine, peach, apricot and plum were reduced, which improved in value, while the cherry showed contractions in the exported quantity (-30 %) compared to 2019, with 20.193 tons, for a value of 64.3 million euros (-30%).
Nectarine exports in 2020 reached 329.242 (-23 %) tons for a value of 453 million euros (+13%), that of peaches were 325.027 tons (-19 %) for a value of 397.4 million euros (+8 %); apricot totaled 96.027 tons (+3 %) and 148.4 million euros (+25 %), and plum totaled 89.743 tons (-5 %) and 107 million euros (+16 %).
