The production of pistachios is increasing

Following the statements of President of the General Union of Turkish Agricultural Chambers, Semsi Bayraktar, prices should fall following the increase. It must be said that the price of pistachios increased excessively in recent years, due to a very low harvest of about 80 000 tonnes in 2014. This year, the season is expected to begin ten days later, due to the heat early in the production zone, but should be about 150-160 000 tonnes.

About 84 percent of global pistachio production is owned by three countries, Iran, 1st world producer, the United States and Turkey who fight for the 2nd place. The Turkish pistachio has more taste than the varieties grown in other countries, but it is more difficult to peel.

The growing region of the largest pistachio in Turkey Sanliurfa in the south-east.Semsi Bayraktar added that the production of pistachio may rise further if irrigation conditions have improved and the technical means are implemented to improve the quality of pistachio. It should also set up a scholarship pistachio, enabling better marketing, especially to foreign countries.
