the Kisan Rath will link over 10,000 farmers, 50 farmer producer organizations and 1,000 verified agricultural traders to an online platform
A new mobile app called Kisan Rath was launched by Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Assam with a purpose to create a technology-based buyer-seller network in Assam for farmers.
The mobile app, developed, designed and technically maintained by the National Informatics Center (NIC), will be out to use by the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART)
which will impart training to farmers and other stakeholders on how to use the app. The app will be available in Assamese, Hindi and English.
It will facilitate timely selling of fruit and vegetables and will help farmers to get maximum benefit for their produce by opening up markets across India.
Another advantage is that the amounts of wastes of perishable fruit and vegetables will significantly decrease.
According to the official release, the Kisan Rath will link over 10,000 farmers, 50 farmer producer organizations and 1,000 verified agricultural traders to an online platform.
Atul Bora, the Assam’s agricultural minister, said that the app would exclude the role of middlemen by opening new market opportunities for farmers and raise their bargaining power.
