During the first part of the campaign, between April and June, the Spanish region of Murcia marketed a total of 74,261 tons of stone fruit on international markets, which represents about 38% of the national exports in that period, amounting 277,060 tons.
The general secretary of the agrarian organization ASAJA Murcia, Alfonso Galvez Caravaca, has shown “moderate satisfaction” about Murcian stone fruit export data during the first part of the campaign. Galvez Caravaca stressed that “the growth of exports in our Region has been significantly better than for other communities” with an increase of more than 30%, reaching 74,261 tons, according to data provided by the General Customs Directorate.
These figures, according to Caravaca, "prove our farmer’s commitment to develop products with high added value, in line with what international markets require today”. He also highlighted that “neither the water shortage afflicting the region, nor the strange weather campaign’s start or even the transport strike could slow the pace of such dynamic industry as the stone fruit is for the Region”.
With regard to national stone fruit export, these amounted to 277,060 tons in the mentioned period, representing an increase by 30.6% over previous year. In terms of turnover, total market value reached 340 million, a 34% more than previous year.
