In Fiji, the pineapple sector wants to expand crops, increase production and diversify sales.
Opportunities have been identified to expand crops, increase yields and improve the quality of pineapple production currently totaling 2,800 tons per year.
These expected increases will be all the more solid with a change in the methods of cultivation. To implement these changes, the Ministry of Agriculture requested support from ACIAR (Australian Center for International Agricultural Research) and the Sunshine Coast University for practical training for farmers.
With more efficient cropping methods, production will increase with higher volumes for local consumption and for export. Succeeding to provide the tourism and processing sector as well as the external markets.
