The harvest of red fruits is abundant this year in Switzerland (Photo: cledeschamps.swissmilk.ch).
This year the harvest is abundant and exceeds the average of the last 5 years. The weather conditions were favorable and the quality is considered excellent.
The red fruit harvest reached last year's level and exceeded the average of the last 5 years. According to estimates by FUS (Fruit-Union Switzerland), around 2,428 tonnes of raspberries, 529 tonnes of blackberries, 758 tonnes of blueberries and 369 tonnes of currants should be marketed this season.
As far as organic cultivation is concerned, FUS expects 161 tons of raspberries, 147 tons of blueberries, 58 tons of blackberries and 23 tons of currants.
The Swiss production of red fruits is available from July to October. In the country, the consumption of berries has increased sharply in recent years, so since 2019 the increase is +18% for raspberries and +16% for blueberries. The average per person per year is 7kg of berries.
