Situation on Banana international market in March

Prices remain highly buoyant. The supply has continued to be well below normal levels.
The recurrent shortfall in dollar banana imports has continued to be temporarily aggravated by the shortage of fruits from the French West Indies. Meanwhile, demand has remained at a good level in most European markets.
However, the steep green banana price increase registered since mid-March has begun to be passed on to the retail sector.
Furthermore, the pressure from competing Spring fruits has continued to rise in certain markets (strawberries in France and Spain). However, all the markets have remained well balanced, with the only blot to report being the recurrent lack of sales fluidity in the United Kingdom, and since this week in Poland.
Prices have continued to rise, reaching a rarely seen level of above €1 at quayside.
