U.S lift ban on Spanish tomatoes
Spain
Friday 08 November 2002
The Murcia region in Spain will be able to export its tomatoes to the USA as soon as December 2nd of this year. Indeed, the United States have decided to lift ban, which was pressing on this production since the 70's, further to the Mediterranean Fly plague - today extinct. The opening of the U.S market to Murcia's products is all the more important that its main competitors - Italy and Morocco - didn't get the right to export there.
Morocco has recorded favourable temperatures these last days that could lead to an overproduction in tomatoes in November and December on the European market. Growers of the Agadir region could export about 22 000 tons of tomatoes during this campaign.
