Spanish cucumbers finally found not guilty

Berlin has admitted that the Spanish cucumbers were not responsible for the contamination which killed 16 people in Germany and one in Sweden.
"Germany recognizes that Spanish cucumbers are not the cause of the epidemic," said Secretary of State for Agriculture, Robert Kloos. Analyses confirmed by the European Commission cleared Spanish cucumbers. The source of E.coli contamination is still unknown and leaves research in Germany at point zero.
The Spanish Minister of Agriculture has criticised Germany of accusing Spain without evidence, creating irreparable damage to the Spanish agricultural sector. Spanish producers are losing 200 million euros a week because of import restrictions of several countries. Spain has called for exceptional measures and may consider prosecution.
The German supply chain could be now be implicated. Some believe that control in Germany is not rigorous enough in the food sector, pointing to dioxin contamination in pigs earlier this year.
