High Uzbekistan's ranking in world export of fruits and vegetables

Having a dry continental climate with more than 300 sunny days a year and fertile soil, allows Uzbekistan to cultivate more than 350 types of fruits, vegetables, nuts and beans, herbs and melons (19,2 million tons in 2019). The volume of production projected to exceed 20 million tons in 2020.

The period of ripening of fruits and vegetables in the country lasts from March until December.  Uzbekistan exports 180 types of agricultural products to more than 80 countries around the world due to obtaining three harvests per year and competitive prices. Top five export destinations: Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan. Today the country increase the volume of exports to the Republic of Korea, countries of the Gulf, Baltic States and other European countries like Poland, France and United Kingdom.  Uzbekistan also exports capers, dry fruits and different nuts to Italy.

Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Italian Republic explains that the Government of Uzbekistan makes systematic investments to support diversification and modernization of the agricultural industry. The Export Promotion Agency was established and given a spectrum of instruments to support local producers in reaching foreign markets with their products. Up to 50% of the costs of transporting products compensated to Exporters from the state budget.

Otabek Akbarov, Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Italy, shares ranking of the country in the world export of fruits and vegetables: “Third place belongs to dried grapes, apricots, persimmon and fresh apricots; fourth place to bean products and prunes; fifth place to cherries and plums, and ninth place to grapes and peaches.”

Currently, a package of projects in the agricultural sector is implemented in Uzbekistan with financial assistance of the World Bank ($659,3 million), the International Fund for Agricultural Development ($153,5 million), and the Food and Agriculture Organization ($8,69 million).

Mr. Akbarov adds that the agricultural sector of the country is constantly growing thanks to the range of technologies, know-how and investments of Italy. Among partners – companies “Icoel”, “Zuegg”, “Unitec”, “Idromeccanica Lucchini”, “Besana”, “Vivai Zanzi”, “Advise & Consulting” and many others.

The world’s largest wholesale food market “Marché International de Rungis” (France) intends to establish a chain of modern state-of-the-art agro logistic centers in Tashkent and other cities of Uzbekistan.
