In Cordoba (Spain), the garlic season has begun with an expected reduction in the harvest of 15 to 20% due to the drought, according to local media. This situation does not only affect Cordoba, but the entire autonomous community, where it is expected that the daily wages generated by this crop will be reduced by half.
Harvesting and mechanised garlic grubbing has begun in the province. The area sown this year is smaller compared to the previous season, mainly due to the risk of water shortages necessary for the crop to grow.
Harvesting in Cordoba not only starts the season in the market but also represents the second largest garlic production in Spain. In the previous crop, between 30,000 and 35,000 kilos were harvested, which is equivalent to more than 30% of the total garlic area in Andalusia, the second largest producing autonomous region in the country.
