Ukraine aims to develop a network of wholesale markets and warehouses for agricultural production.
Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, visiting a new market named "Capital" in Kiev, has confirmed plans to cover the country with a network of wholesale and warehousing of agricultural production. By the end of 2012, new markets like the Capital in Kiev will open in Lviv, Donetsk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhya.
These new markets will drive down prices by 30 to 35% to fight against speculation, and also to limit losses due to their storage facility. Fruit and vegetables are sold in lots (10kg) and for retail. Stolychnyi Market near Kiev, which opened a few weeks ago, already sells 3,000 tons of products per day.
