In the month of September 2023, grape production in Peru experienced a notable boost, reaching a total of 22,421 tons. It is an increase of +128.8% compared to the 9,801 tons registered in the same period of the previous year, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
This growth is attributed to the favorable thermal conditions that provided a favorable environment for the phenological development of the grape.
The detailed data especially highlights the positive performance in the country's northern producing regions, with Piura leading the way with an extraordinary +300% increase, closely followed by Lambayeque with an impressive +272.7%. These two departments, thanks to the advance in harvests, contributed significantly with 66.9% to the total national production.
Additionally, La Libertad experienced a 34.0% increase, closely followed by Arequipa with a 29.1% increase, and San Martín with a solid 8.0%. However, decreases were recorded in Áncash (-45.7%) and Cajamarca (-42.9%), pointing to variations in local conditions that affected the production of this fruit in those specific areas.
