Reduced production has necessarily led to a decline in exports of Chilean plums because of the gel.
Frost in September led to a sharp drop in production and a decline of exports.
The quantities of plums for foreign markets fell sharply, Chile exported 4.6 million boxes of plums or 55% less compared to the same period last year. This scarcity has led to a boom in prices, in the United States a box of Angeleno variety plums (size 30) are worth USD 24-26 on March 18.
Predictions made by professionals, after the frost of September are correct, exports of plums fell by 50%. These peaches have decreased by 39%, while nectarines by 50%.
