The asparagus harvest has just started in Switzerland, where consumers may prefer local production to imports during this season.
Green and white asparagus have just started in Switzerland.
The first Swiss asparagus has just arrived and consumers are looking for local production. Switzerland is a unique market for asparagus and consumption is high with 0.66 kg of asparagus per capita. Local production is low at only 248 tons and imports are high at
about 9,490 tons in 2010.
In 2010, total imports amounted to 9,490,763 kg. Switzerland received imports from Germany (1,058,448 kg), the US (2,636,937 kg), France (1,150,885 kg), Italy (380,561 kg) the Netherlands (236,479) and Spain (284 326 kg).
