Water is precious in Saudi Arabia and it has stopped exports of fruits and vegetables grown in an attempt to reduce water consumption in agriculture.
To rationalize water use in agriculture, Saudi Arabia has decided to stop the export of certain agricultural products.
The Ministry of Agriculture has suspended exports of agricultural products grown in open spaces to rationalise water consumption and reduce its use in agricultural areas.
The suspension of exports for potatoes, watermelons, onions,
melons, pumpkins. Implementation began on 17 September.
Neighboring countries, such as Qatar, which imports 65% of its needs, are the main customers of these exports and fear soaring prices. These countries, in search of new sources of supply, should turn to Egypt, India, Turkey and China.
