The truck remains the main means of reaching the various markets in Europe which are the main destinations for Spanish fruit and vegetable exports, according to FEPEX
According to the various data processed by FEPEX, Spanish fruit and vegetable exports are mainly transported by road. FEPEX indicates that 94.1% of Spanish exports are transported by truck, transport by ship represents only 5.5% and rail transport 0.19% and air transport 0.09%.
To explain these results, FEPEX considers that, given that the main destination remains Europe, transport by truck better meets the needs of production and marketing and therefore seems the appropriate means of reaching the main markets such as Germany, France and the United Kingdom.
In 2021, according to FEPEX, the volume of exports transported by truck totaled 5.4 million tons of vegetables and 7.2 million tons of fruits. The volume of exports transported by sea totaled 327,742 tons of vegetables and 411,244 tons of fruits. The export volume by rail totaled 13,520 tons of vegetables and 12,483 tons of fruits. The export volume by air totaled 12,122 tons of fruit.
