Spain is first out of 27 EU countries for the number of hectares devoted to organic agriculture.
Spain is at the head of the European Union for the number of hectares devoted to organic agriculture.
Spain totaled 1,845,039 hectares devoted to organic farming at the end of 2011, an increase of 11.76% over the previous year. It takes first place in the ranking of EU according to the the Ministry of Agriculture, for the fourth consecutive year.
Regions: Andalucía (973,239 hectares), Castilla-La Mancha (307,612), Catalonia (92,434), Extremadura (91,108), Navarra (73,432). The number of operators in organic production totalled 32,837 against 27,767 in 2010, an increase of 18%.
