Strawberry Committee of France, Italy, Portugal and Spain meets this week

During this week, from April 4 to 5, the annual meeting of the contact group of the Joint Fruit and Vegetable Committee of France, Italy, Portugal and Spain is taking place. It is the turn of the strawberry group, which will meet to discuss various topics, including the balance of the last season in the four countries.

 

In Spain, the 2022/2023 strawberry campaign ended with a production of 243,000 tons, 10% less than the previous year, according to data from the Association of Producers and Exporters of Strawberry of Huelva, Freshuelva, which represents more than 95% of the production of the province.

 

In addition to the balance of the campaign, participants will address issues related to the sustainability of strawberry and red fruit production, as well as the impact of climate change. A particularly relevant issue for the Spanish sector is the lack of availability of phytosanitary products for agricultural work, which will also be discussed at the meeting.
