Historical prices of potatoes in Castilla y León
VU
The potato market in Castilla y León (Spain) has reached historic prices, exceeding 55 cents per kilo in recent weeks, with a peak of 56.91 cents in mid-August. This increase is attributed to the rising cost of inputs, lower production in southern Spain, and shortages in France, according to a local media outlet.
Despite an expected reduction in yields of up to 20%, current prices are far above previous years' records. With a projected production of 710,000 tons in 2024, the harvest's value could exceed 360 million euros if prices remain stable.
Donaciano Dujo, president of Asaja Castilla y León, anticipates the campaign will extend until October, highlighting the high quality of the product and a minimal impact on consumers.
