Polish strawberry producers are dissatisfied with the current season

The analysts of CIS fruit & vegetable business weekly "Fruit-Inform" inform, Polish strawberry producers are worried by the high temperatures and the absence of rainfalls; the unfavorable weather cognitions affect their businesses. Just some producers possess drip irrigation systems: the thing is, such systems are expensive, and the prices for strawberry remain relatively low.
To the experts' opinion, if hot and droughty weather is observed in the next days, the season of the field strawberry harvesting will start and finish earlier than usually; the yield will be in average 30% as low than normal. We have already informed that the production cost of Polish strawberry was forecasted to achieve the level of US$1.06-1.11/kg even in case of the normal yield level. If the yield declines, the production cost will zoom up, and the quality will deteriorate.
As of today, in most cases the strawberry grown under film or agri-fiber is available on Polish market for the prices of US$0.97-1.87/kg. However, the first large shipments of the field strawberry are expected to enter the market this week. This fact may lead to another decrease of the wholesale prices which have been already close to the level of the production cost.
