Record exports for New Zealand apples
New Zealand
Tuesday 21 December 2004
Exports of New Zealand apples are expected to reach 21 million cartons in 2004, a record number.
Apple production increased by 13 percent in 2004, thanks to excellent weather conditions and to an increase in the production area.
65 percent of production is exported.
However, export prices fell dramatically due to oversupply, unfavourable exchange rates and increased competition from other southern hemisphere producers.
