Export of bananas from African countries in 2010
Cameroon

Exports from African ACP countries are projected to decrease by some 6 percent to 430,000 tons in 2010.
Almost all these exports would come from only two countries (Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon), with some marginal quantities originating from Ghana and other countries.
Exports from Somalia are difficult to predict due to the persistence of political instability. African banana exporting countries face structural problems that are similar to those of the Caribbean countries but the magnitude of these problems is smaller.
They are also expected to be affected by the end of the quota regime in the EC in 2006, when export prices are forecast to decrease by about 25 percent.
However, their competitiveness gap with Latin American countries is not as big as that of Caribbean countries. Consequently, their exports to the EC should stabilize after an initial drop in 2006, while they might find some market outlets in other African countries.
