According to the Business Standard website information, the country recorded a production of 269 million tons of fruits and vegetables in 2012/13. Is better than the 257 million tons the previous year and better than the 215 million tons the year before.
This increase shows that there is a greater availability of fruits and vegetables per capita for the domestic market and for export volumes. India is now the world's largest producer of mangoes, bananas, papayas, pomegranates, and is ranked in second place for eggplant, cabbage, onions, potatoes, peas.
About 4 million hectares were put under enhanced irrigation systems as drip and sprinkler irrigation. The capacity of cold storage totaled more than 30 million tons, of which 2 million installed in the past 2 years.
