Since April 8, Turkey has temporarily suspended its lemon exports. The decision is in response to recent frosts in key regions such as Adana, Mersin and Hatay, which severely affected the harvest, the Turkish Ministry of Trade reported. This measure seeks to prioritize domestic consumption and stabilize prices in both the local and international markets.
Turkey, one of the world's largest citrus exporters together with Spain, thus curbs the supply of lemons to key destinations such as Russia, one of its main buyers. According to data from the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC), Turkey was positioned in 2023 among the five largest exporters of lemons, along with Mexico, Spain, South Africa and Brazil.
