Present shortage of potatoes in principal countries producers as Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium is speeding up the entry of Israelian potatoes into European market.
Agriculture sources from Israel informed that comparing to 220.000 tons of last year's crop of potatoes, during this year's campaign farmers could collect more than 300.000 tons.
Harsh drought in June and July and heavy rains in August 2006 that afflicted Northern Europe induced farmers in Israel and Egypt to augment their plantations of potatoes to meet greater demand of present season.
In Belgium, previous season harvest brought 30-40% decrease in crops of potatoes. In Holland, the stocks of February 2007 are estimated as almost 15% less than in the same month of 2006.
