Brazil gives green light for persimmon imports from Uruguay

Fruit will be subject to inspection and possible lab testing.
The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has officially authorized the import of fresh persimmons (Diospyros kaki) from Uruguay, under strict phytosanitary conditions.
Published in a recent regulation by the Secretariat of Agricultural Defense, the import is now allowed provided shipments meet specific plant health requirements.
All consignments must include a phytosanitary certificate issued by Uruguay’s National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO), with a declaration confirming the absence of Diaporthe eres, either by certified pest-free production sites or confirmed inspections.
Shipments will be subject to border inspections and laboratory testing in Brazil. Costs related to sampling and analysis will be borne by the importer. If quarantine pests are detected, the shipment will be destroyed or rejected, and imports may be suspended pending review.
This regulation is effective immediately.
