Recovery in citrus exports to the United States

 

 

 

ONSSA (National Health Security Office of Food Products) confirms the recovery in exports after months of embargo. US authorities had agreed to an embargo, following the discovery in a lot of clementines, a fruit fly larva called "Medfly."

 

 

 

After a series of meetings between governments and health authorities in the two countries (ONNSSA, APHIS), the implementation of an action plan in Morocco to combat this harmful and American visits to production sites have led to the lifting of the embargo.

 

 

 

Morocco has exported on average to the US market about 44,000 tons of citrus during the 2012/13 and 2014/15. The main market of Morocco remains the EU with more than 220 000 tonnes of citrus fruits and vegetables, followed by Russia and Canada.
