In the Campo de Cartagena region of Spain, the potato season is characterised by stable prices of around 80 cents per kilo, according to a local farmer.
This stability is mainly attributed to the lack of potato imports. Despite recent heavy rains, the crop has remained largely intact and harvesting is expected to be completed within a month.
Although the rains have been heavy, they have not had a considerable effect on the potato crop. However, Juan Luis Sánchez, President of COAG in Torre Pacheco, points out that the irrigation system has suffered damage due to the intensity of the water. With around 4,500 hectares dedicated to this crop, Campo de Cartagena continues to be a crucial point for potato production in the region.
