Cider, new national drink in Poland
FJ
Since the Russian embargo on European agricultural products, the consumption of apples and cider becomes a patriotic duty in Poland.
Poland is the first producer of apples in Europe and its exports of Fruits & Vegetables in Russia amount to about 336 million euros per year. Russia was the largest buyer of Polish apples, and the embargo imposed by Moscow will have consequences for the entire sector in Poland.
As a sign of support for farmers, journalists have launched a campaign called "Jedz Jablka zlosc Putinowi na" (Eat apples to annoy Putin). Politicians, athletes, celebrities and ordinary citizens share selfies and pictures where you can see everybody eating apples and drinking cider.
Before the campaign, the cider was not a really popular drink. Since things have changed, purchase intentions for cider jumped +136% according to a recent survey.
