In Chile, the harvest of kiwifruit has already begun and the sector expects an export volume of about 3% higher than the previous season. This expected performance could be amplified thanks to the implementation of new maturity parameters.
According to the Kiwi Committee's forecast, the expected export volume this season is 180,000 tonnes, 3% more than the previous season. But the results obtained could be much better thanks to the implementation of new parameters of maturity.
To guarantee the quality of the fruits Committee del Kiwi established new minimum parameters: from 15.5% to 16.0% of dry matter and for soluble (soluble sólidos) from 5.5 ° to 6.2 ° Brix. As an average value at the fruit station, thus ensuring softer fruit and good physiological maturity.
These parameters, introduced in this campaign, are part of the WFP (Programa de Aseguramiento de la Madurez) Program for Maturity Assurance (PAM) and will be implemented gradually in 2 seasons.
