Asparagus acreage continues to increase

Asparagus vegetables are now benefiting from the most important areas in Germany.    

According to figures from the Federal Statistics Office, in 2014 the asparagus area increased by 5% compared to 2013 and cover more than 25,300 hectares. In the country asparagus is a vegetable that has the most significant areas , now reaching 22 % of the total area .   

2014 asparagus production totaled 114,000 tons, an increase of 11% compared to the previous year . About half the acreage of asparagus are in 3 areas:  Niediedersachsen ( 5400 hectares ) , Brandenburg ( 4200 hectares ) , Nordrhein -Westfalen ( 4100 hectares).
