Ukraine forces The Netherlands out of Russian market of bulb onion

Russia remains the main sales market for bulb onion producers from The Netherlands; however, the volumes of onions supply to Russian market have decreased almost fourfold this year, 152.000 tons down to 41.000 tons.
Ukraine confidently seized the Dutch initiative related to the bulb onion supplies to Russian companies. In 2007 Ukrainian companies weekly supplied around 1.000-1.500 tons of onion to Russian market. So, according to the tentative estimations of the periodical, around 23-30.000 tons of onions have been exported from Ukraine to Russia till early June.
The total onion export from Ukraine may exceed 65-70 thousands tons in season 2006/07, according to the forecasts of Andriy Yarmak, the Ukrainian agriculture specialist.
