Demand for health products continues to grow

The development of the Chinese middle class, which is expected to reach 400 million people by 2020 (McKinsey forecast) has a significant effect on food trends.
With rising incomes, consumers want healthier and better foods. Due to rapid changes in lifestyles and diets, between 2002 and 2012 China experienced a worsening of chronic diseases and obesity.
But the various health campaigns, the promotion of a healthy diet and the increase in income seem to be starting to reverse the trend. Recent EUROMONITOR data show that consumption of Fresh Fruits & Vegetables increased by 4% in 2016.
Organic food sales in China increased by around 18-20% in 2017. Currently, only 0.9% of the country's arable land is dedicated to organic farming. The success of "health" food encourages Chinese producers to adopt organic farming and importers to boost demand internationally.
