As harvesting of seedless grapes begins, the problem of logistics, particularly important for this delicate product, is solved with air transport, which will be used for the first time this season thanks to the contract with the Turkish airline THY, which has offered cargo reductions of up to 70%.
The President of the Governing Council of the Union of Aegean Exporters of Fruit and Vegetables, Mr Riza Seyyar, said that not only grapes but many other fruits and vegetables could be transported at lower costs for the quality to be preserved and meet very short deadlines. It is mainly the countries in the Persian Gulf that benefit from the best transport prices, but also the European countries and cities like London, Frankfurt, Paris and Munich will be served in one day. Moscow and Saint Petersburg are also on the list of cities that benefit from this service.
He added that with these logistical facilities, the export of this type of delicate fruits to be transported to increase by 100% since the last 6 months, since the use of air transport. Not only will the products be able to go directly from 4 points closest to the production areas: İzmir, Ankara, İstanbul and Adana, but significant investments have been made to keep the refrigeration chain in line with the increase in refrigerated storage capacity. The airports, which decreased from 18 minus to less than 4 degrees.
