A survey commissioned by WAO, the World Organization of Avocado, was carried out in 5 European countries (France, UK, Germany, Italy and Spain). The survey reveals data on Europeans' perceptions of health, food and lifestyle.
According to the survey, 97% of respondents attach great importance to healthy eating; results by country: Italy (99%), Spain (99%), France (96%), Germany (95%).
Around 70% of respondents stated that avocados are good for their health. Average weekly consumption is equivalent to almost one avocado per week: Spain (1.3 avocados per week on average), France (0.9 avocados per week on average), Germany (0.6 avocados per week on average).
Low-meat diets are quite popular, with almost 25% of respondents saying they don't eat meat regularly and have opted for plant-based alternatives.
"It's striking that an overwhelming majority of Europeans are now looking for healthier diets and food options, such as plant-based products or plant proteins. Avocados are an excellent source of nutrients, monounsaturated fats, fiber and protein, and remarkably low in sugar, salt and unhealthy fats. They're the perfect substitute for anyone looking to adopt a healthier lifestyle," says Zac Bard, President of WAO.
