The second largest producer of strawberries in the EU will see a drop of 40% in production.
Strawberry production in Poland will reach its lowest level in 40 years.
The USDA report shows a decline in output of 40% over the 2011 harvest. Last year production stood at 166,000 MT. The severe winter conditions have affected many plantations.
Poland is the second largest producer of strawberries
in the EU after Spain and the biggest player in the market for frozen strawberries. In 2011, Poland exported 85,000 MT of frozen strawberries and 14,000 MT of fresh strawberries. The main destinations are EU countries (over 90% of total exports), especially Germany and the Netherlands (over 50%).
