Stemilt has been recognised for its innovative packaging by winning a PMA award for excellence.
US-based grower, packer and shipping expert Stemilt Growers has been handed the inaugural impact award: Excellence in Produce Packaging by the Produce Marketing Association (PMA), in recognition of the company's multi-functional Pinata unistack display box.
The PMA praised the innovative nature of the design, which combines to be an apple carton and a display in one and uses sesame street characters on the box in order to "graphically make a statement".
The awards have been developed by the PMA packaging council in order to highlight five separate categories, with Stemilt triumphing in the merchandising/transportability division.
Stemilt marketing director Roger Pepperl said: "We are thrilled to be recognised by PMA with this award. Our vision of providing a box that can go through any distribution system but can also be turned into a display has been achieved."
