Potato exports increase

Excellent results have been announced for U.S. exports of potatoes that have seen a significantly increase between July 2010 and June 2011.
The US Potato Board announced that exports reached a record $ 1.35 billion for 1,366,649 tons for the year July 2010 to june 2011. There was an increase of 15% in value and 11% by volume. Exports account for more than 59 million quintals of fresh potatoes, about 16% of the total U.S. production.
Exports of fresh potatoes have increased by 34% in value to $186 million and 14% by volume to 399,023 tons. Canada is the biggest importer, followed by Mexico and Korea.
Frozen potatoes account for 60% of the total export value. Japan remains the largest market, followed by Canada, China, Mexico and Korea. Exports of dehydrated potatoes were destined for Canada, Mexico, Japan, China and the Philippines.
