Initial estimates for the 2023-24 season predicted higher production and export levels than the previous season.
According to the local media, weather conditions were favourable in the production zones. The harvest was not disrupted by rain. This resulted in optimum fruit quality and size. In addition, international demand was buoyant, and exporters were able to obtain good prices on European markets as a whole.
Europe, particularly the Netherlands, Lithuania and the United Kingdom, are major destinations for Indian grapes. In India, the export season started early and is expected to end around the 1st week of April.
Despite concerns about disruptions in the Red Sea region, which have caused an increase in logistics costs and longer journey times via the Cape of Good Hope, good prices have offset these additional costs.
