PhilaPort, The Port of Philadelphia, increased the volume of container traffic by 7% in 2020. Thereafter, the port is the fastest growing container port on the U.S. East Coast.
The Port of Philadelphia is well known for its expertise in refrigerated cargo, which include bananas, mangoes, pineapples, grapes, blueberries and asparagus, just to name a few. Despite hardships created by the worldwide COVID pandemic, people still need to eat and consumers are seeing the benefits of fresh, unprocessed foods.
According to Jeff Theobald, Executive Director and CEO at PhilaPort, the experience of the port community in the cold supply chain making it possible to move rapidly all types of perishable goods cargo products. PhilaPort working every day to make improvements. “Our longshoremen and our terminal operator, HOLT, have done an excellent job staying safe and moving cargo,” he added.
In addition, PhilaPort saw a record high in forest product cargoes for last five years. These impressive cargo levels of perishable and forest products continue the port's decade-long trend of prosperity with a compound annual growth realized 10%.
