Temporary suspension of avocado exports from Kenya

In Kenya, temporary export bans are one of the main ways of avoiding a crop of immature avocados.

 

Local media have announced the Horticultural Crops Directorate's (HCD) decision to close the Hass, Pinkerton, Fuerte and Jumbo avocado harvesting season and export by sea for the 2023/24 financial year from November 3, 2023.

 

HCD points out that this decision follows a survey carried out in the country's main production areas concerning the ripeness index of avocados.

 

Avocado exports by air remain authorized, subject to HCD inspection and full traceability information for each shipment.
