Del Monte has removed from sale melons from Guatemala

Del Monte has removed from sale the cantaloupe melons from Guatemala in the United States for fear of contamination with salmonella.
12 cases of contamination have been observed in 7 States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has concluded that the cantaloupes imported from Guatemala were the cause of infection by salmonella bacteria.
The cantaloupes were sold in the supermarket chain Costco in the states of Alaska, California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
Del Monte recalled about 5,000 boxes of Guatemalan melons. Infected products come from a farm in Asuncion Mita, Jutiapa. Del Monte has announced that this area was in isolation to determine where the contamination occurred.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Guatemala will send a team to inspect the farms production and verify compliance with security requirements.
