Spain is N°1 for the production of garlic in Europe

Spanish production represents 50% of European production.
Opening of the International Congress of Aïl (Congreso Internacional del Ajo) took place in Madrid during which Isabel García Tejerina, General Secretary of Agriculture recalled some figures. Spain produces 140,000 tons of garlic, which makes it as N°1in EU for culture and equivalent to 50% of total European production.
The sector exports 65 000 tons per year in international markets making Spain the second largest exporter of garlic.
The 1st World Congress has to take stock of the production and marketing of garlic, analyze problems (production, storage) and examine improvements to be made.
